Are you looking to hire an agent but aren't sure if you should hire someone on a team or independent? What is the difference between the two?

San Diego Realtor Kurt Strauss defines the difference between an real estate agent working on a team and an agent working independent.

A client asked me the other day, "Hey, Kurt, I've heard of brokerages "having individual agents and then having teams of agents. "What's that all about?" Thoughtful question. If we define the parties, we'll get the answer. Let's go. Number one, what is a real estate brokerage?

I want you to think of a real estate brokerage as a professional football field. It provides a platform for the game or business of real estate to be conducted upon. For example, platforms like eXp, Sotheby's, Coldwell Banker. Each are governed by laws, rules, and regulations, and each provide some support, like a field, to the agent to conduct the business of real estate.

What is a real estate agent?

If a brokerage is a platform, the agent is the player on the field. Like professional athletes, great agents master their craft through rigorous education, determination, and knowledge to master the fundamentals like technology, like marketing, like negotiation, to produce the greatest result that their clients deserve.

What is a real estate team?

A team is a group of agents that have come together to create synergies to serve their clients at an even higher level than an individual agent can. I encourage you to think of this team model as a wagon and a horse. The wagon being your real estate goal, the horse being your real estate agent. Ask yourself this. If you have a real estate goal you want to accomplish, would you rather harness a single horse for your wagon, or would you rather command the force of a group of Clydesdales driving to get you the greatest result possible?

If you're looking for a team of Clydesdales, you might want to consider Whissel Realty Group. Who you work with matters.
